SIRIUS PATROL

The sledge patrol Sirius at work on the arctic continent of Greenland

Sirius Patrol

The dogs in the Sirius Patrol are faced with one of the most challenging terrains and climates imaginable, and they love it! They love it because they are built to survive the harsh weather and the physical challenges involved. The dogs are fed with Kronch Pemmican on the harder expeditions, which ensures that they are always fit for the trip, both physically and mentally.

Kronch Pemmican was developed specifically for the Sirius Patrol. Henne Pet Food, in co-operation with the Sirius patrol, have developed a high-energy feed, that fully supplies what the dogs need under the extreme circumstances.

Pemmican is an old Indian invention, that originally served as efficient traveling rations for the Indians. Kronch Pemmikan is a mixture of meat and fat which is very rich in protein. As a result, it contains a lot of energy, can be kept for a very long time, and is easy to pack and store. It is currently used as an energy source for dogs on arctic expeditions where dogs and dog sleds are used.

The EXPEDITION Sirius 2000

In the beginning of February 2000, six young men departed on a 3500 Kilometer long polar expedition through one of the worlds biggest and least explored areas. The expedition marked the Sirius Patrols 50 year anniversary and ran along the North and Northeastern coast of Greenland, from Qaanaaq in the west to Daneborg in the east. Denmark's heir to the throne Prince Frederik was part of the polar expedition as was a film photographer, whose job was to ensure an optimal coverage of this event.

The Sirius Patrol normally feeds the dogs three times every evening. Every dog gets 400 grams of Kronch Pemmican when the expedition camps, 350g-400g of dried fish, and finally a lump of pigs fat (pork) that weighs 125g-250g (The colder the weather, the more fat is needed). For about 15 minutes to an hour, the dogs rip apart, chew, and play with the dried fish. By doing this, dogs gain important vitamins from the dried fish, and plenty of fuel for the muscles from the Kronch Pemmican, that mostly consists of fat and sugar. The expedition is currently looking into replacing the dried fish with a new Pemmican type, which is rich in fibre.

Kronch Pemmican

Kronch Pemmican consists of as much as 58.5% fat, salmon, fishmeal, barley, corn, brewers yeast, and numerous vitamins and minerals. It is a very powerful calorie bar, that contains approximately 6000 k. call. per kilo or 2400 k. call. per. bar.

Kronch Pemmican is an ideal supplement to a hard working dogs diet. Kronch Pemmican is ideal for hunting dogs, tracker dogs, police dogs, training dogs, and stressed show dogs.

Kronch Pemmican increases your dogs stamina, calms it down, and makes it easier to control.

Kronch Fibre

The new Pemmican type, which the EXPEDITION hopes can eventually replace the dried fish, has a lower energy content. However, it is very rich in fibre, which is important for maintaining the dogs stomach, which is what the dried fish are currently used for.
The Pemmican Fibre consists of barley, wheat, protein, fat, sugar beat and several minerals and vitamins. One of the problems that have yet to be solved with Pemmican Fibre, is that it has to be dehydrated to stop mould from developing. This, however, makes it so dry that it crumbles like a cookie when the dog bites it. Obviously, it has not been perfected yet, which is why we are working hard to ensure that it lives up to our high standards.
